Swann, Jr. was a graduate of Princeton University in Art and Archaeology, he attended the Maryland Institute and Johns Hopkins University and studied with his father for four years. Later he taught etching and lectured nationally. Author of Colonial and Historic Homes in Maryland, he completed over one hundred etchings of his own. He then carried on the Etchcrafters Art Guild which his father founded.
In 1975, his rendition of "The Mother Seton House" was accepted by the Vatican. His etchings are in the Cairo Museum Shop in Egypt, the Matinee Gallery in Nassau, the Heritage Gallery in Bermuda, and some 300 galleries in America. He was responsible for producing the etching of Nelson A. Rockerfeller. He died on February 22, 1998 at the age of 87.
The University of Baltimore acquired this collection from Don Swann, Jr. and the majority of the works are those he reissued from his parents original plates.
